“Mind Your Mind”

Session outline:
An estimated 257,000 Australians currently live with dementia. Without a significant medical breakthrough, that is expected to soar to 1.13 million by 2050.
 
This session will cover 'normal' memory and thinking changes that occur with age. It will outline the symptoms and causes of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease and provide a presentation of the national risk reduction program 'Mind Your Mind'.

Alzheimer's Australia NSW represents the interests of people living with dementia in New South Wales. We provide leadership in dementia policy and services, encourage and particiapte in research initatives, and provide education, knowldge, skills and risk reduction strategies to people with dementia, their families and carers.
 
Judy Bartholomew is based in Coffs Harbour and focuses on education and group work. She has a background in social welfare and public health and has 20 years experience working with older people and those who have dementia.
 
Marg Coutts has a background in education, art therapy and dementia care. She began working for Alzheimer's Australia in 2008, training support group leaders in group work skills. She is currently Dementia Advisor and Counsellor, Mid-North Coast, Alzheimer's Australia NSW.
